LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, announced the birth of their first child Saturday.
Ohtani made the announcement in an Instagram post, which included a photo of the baby girl’s tiny feet being held by two hands.
“I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter,” Ohtani wrote in the post. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.”
“I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement,” the statement continuned. “I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
The Dodgers placed Ohtani on MLB’s paternity list prior to their series opener Friday night against the Texas Rangers. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters after Saturday’s game that he expects Ohtani to rejoin the team Sunday.
